LA ALMA/LINCOLN
PARK DIALOGUE: MY STORY, YOUR STORY, OUR STORY
Felicia and Joe have been a couple for many years, through health
crises, family alienation, and physical hardships too numerous to describe.
They finish each other's sentences and laugh warmly at each other's gentle jokes.
They check in with each other as they tell the story of their relationship and
their perseverance. They live in a tunnel, near the Platte River. Last winter,
they slept their, keeping each other warm in sleeping bags. This year, the
rising river ruined their possessions; Felicia says she understands the sense
of helplessness experienced by the residents of New Orleans who-like her and
Joe-lost everything in their post-hurricane, flooded city. Felicia and Joe have
a baby. They will soon have an apartment. Things are looking up. As they
conclude their duet, passing off details of their life together from each to
each, Felicia tells the audience, "That's my story." Then, turning to Joe with
a smile, she asks him, "Is that your story?"
You're invited to come, talk about these stories and others, tell
your own, meet your neighbors, and visit one of La Alma/Lincoln Park's
characteristic arts-based businesses, the Laughing Bean.
